22/11/2022 - Don't Ask Me Why
Reading time: 1 min
They ask me why I paint my nails when the wall of my kitchen is open to the sky.
They ask me why do I put on the nice coat to get our portion of bread and water.
They ask me why do I keep buying toys for my son, when machine-guns are flooding the shops.
It's not to leave a pretty body once the bombs catch me. It's not to shield Nicholas from the death that surrounds him. It's not to pretend everything is as it used to be.
It is the only way of fighting I know.
Because death is fought with life, and waiting is the opposite of living.
And that's why I don't want to wait for the war to end to paint my nails, use the good coat or buy my son the toy he wants.
Our life is the best rebellion I can think of.
